Poem in Rattle

My poem “Ode to the Fan” first appeared in Rattle’s fall/winter 2011 issue. It’s now online, too, with an audio file of me reading it. Check it out by clicking here: “Ode to the Fan”.

If you’re feeling jaded about publishing, check out Rattle’s policy. They don’t care about your past publishing history, or your chance at a future publishing history. They don’t care about an MFA or lack thereof; they don’t care if you are the current poet laureate (although how could they not publish one of Natasha Trethewey’s fabulous poems). They care about the poem. And that’s probably true of many journals, but few state this so clearly and truly seem to stick to their philosophy. Thanks, Rattle. I was nervous about submitting poetry again after a long hiatus, but Rattle was one of the first to take one of my poems.
